IB MYP

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) is an educational framework for students aged 11 to 16. It is designed to help students develop critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and a range of skills necessary for success in a rapidly changing world. The MYP emphasizes holistic education, fostering intellectual, personal, emotional, and social growth.

Key features of the IB MYP Curriculum include:

  1. Subject Groups: The MYP curriculum is organized into eight subject groups:

   – Language and Literature

   – Language Acquisition

   – Individuals and Societies

   – Sciences

   – Mathematics

   – Arts

   – Physical and Health Education

   – Design

  1. Interdisciplinary Learning: Students are encouraged to make connections between subjects, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of knowledge as an integrated whole.

  1. Global Contexts: Learning is framed within six global contexts, helping students to explore the relevance of their studies to the real world. These contexts include identities and relationships, orientation in space and time, personal and cultural expression, scientific and technical innovation, globalization and sustainability, and fairness and development.

  1. Approaches to Learning (ATL): The MYP emphasizes the development of key skills such as communication, social, self-management, research, and thinking skills, which are essential for lifelong learning.

  1. Community and Service: Students are encouraged to participate in community service activities, promoting a sense of responsibility and connection to their communities.

  1. Personal Project: In the final year of the MYP, students undertake a personal project, an independent piece of work that allows them to explore an area of interest in depth. This project is a major component of the MYP and showcases students’ skills and knowledge gained throughout the program.

  1. Assessment: The MYP uses a variety of assessment methods, including formative and summative assessments, to evaluate students’ progress. Assessment is criterion-related, focusing on specific objectives within each subject group.

The MYP aims to develop well-rounded individuals who can think critically, communicate effectively, and act responsibly in a global context. It provides a strong foundation for further education, particularly the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and other advanced academic pathways.
